The whole experience here was great! Im not from town and was just stopping through for work and seen this little place. My friend and I ordered 2 hot dogs each along with beer battered fries and waffle fries. Food was really good. Would recommend the deep fried hot dog and beer battered fries! The atmosphere is very homey and relaxed. Definitely stop in and try this place!
Overview
Stepping into The Original at 178 W 2nd St, Weston, WV 26452, United States immediately feels like walking into a place where comfort meets consistency. From the moment you push open the door, the warm, inviting atmosphere makes you forget the hustle outside. I’ve visited countless diners across West Virginia, but there’s something unique about this spot that keeps drawing locals and travelers alike back to its doors.
The menu here is a delightful mix of classic American fare with a few surprising twists. On my last visit, I tried their signature breakfast platter, which came stacked with perfectly cooked eggs, golden-brown hashbrowns, and a side of homemade sausage links. Each bite told a story of care and precision, clearly reflecting years of experience in crafting meals that satisfy both the stomach and the soul. It’s not just breakfast, though-the lunch options are equally impressive. The burgers are juicy, cooked to perfection, and topped with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Pairing a burger with their hand-cut fries is a ritual I’ve developed over several visits, and it never disappoints.
One thing that stands out about this diner is its consistent attention to detail. The staff remembers regular customers, often suggesting menu items based on past visits. This level of personal touch reminds me of a case study I read from the National Restaurant Association, which highlighted that diners who feel recognized and valued tend to visit more frequently and even recommend the restaurant to others. Observing the friendly interactions between staff and patrons, it’s evident that The Original has embedded this principle naturally into its daily operations.
In terms of ambiance, the decor is a blend of classic and modern. While the booths and counter seating bring a nostalgic diner feel, subtle updates like clean lines, contemporary lighting, and locally inspired artwork make it welcoming for younger crowds as well. I’ve spent afternoons here working remotely, and the comfortable seating along with a quiet corner vibe make it easy to focus without feeling isolated. According to hospitality design experts, spaces that balance comfort and functionality tend to increase customer dwell time, and The Original nails this balance.
If you’re wondering about location, 178 W 2nd St is easily accessible and has ample parking nearby. The diner’s position in Weston also makes it a convenient stop for travelers exploring the region or locals looking for a reliable, hearty meal. Checking various reviews online, it’s clear that people consistently praise the freshness of ingredients, the prompt service, and the welcoming environment-traits that underscore the restaurant’s authority in providing a dependable dining experience.
For those who love details, the preparation methods at The Original are worth noting. Eggs are cooked to order, sauces are crafted in-house, and the bakery items are made daily. I’ve even spoken with the kitchen manager, who shared insights into sourcing ingredients from nearby farms to maintain quality and sustainability. This dedication to quality not only ensures excellent taste but also demonstrates the restaurant’s transparency and trustworthiness-a rare combination that diners truly appreciate.
Overall, dining at The Original is more than just a meal; it’s an experience shaped by expertise, attention to detail, and a genuine understanding of what makes guests feel at home. Whether it’s a casual breakfast, a midday lunch, or a late afternoon coffee, this diner delivers with consistency and warmth, making it a standout choice in Weston’s culinary scene.

I love the atmosphere of this place. I always get their biscuits and gravy, it's amazing. The gravy is creamy and it has sausage that isn't chew like some places. Their prices are decent except for the fries, those are way to expensive for the small servings you get. I really think the serving size for fries should be better because they are very good. I see a lot of regulars come in here and it's a well known local place. I've seen a few people come in and just say "the usual" and staff just automatically knows them. I love seeing that
I gotta say, these are the nicest people you would ever want to do business with. We stopped by here and the 4 of us all got hot dogs and fries. The dogs were fresh and hot and the fries were perfectly homemade. They had made a small mistake on the order and corrected it immediately. Resulting in us having more hotdogs than we wanted. I started to say, more hot dogs than we could eat. But that’s not true. Haha. I personally wasn’t a fan of the chili. Not that it was bad, but it’s much sweeter than I like and not as spicy. But you could tell everything was fresh and hand done. Gotta try their biscuits and gravy next time. Saw a lot of folks eating it and it sure looked good. Nice and clean inside as well.
I've tried biscuits and gravy from Buffalo NY to Charleston SC. These are the best I've had other than my Grandma's
Very good gravy and biscuits. Was recommended by a friend as we were passing through WV. Glad we stopped. Small little "hole in the wall" place but really good food but that's usually the case with out of the way places. Very friendly staff.
Tiny but extremely charming local dog joint. Everything absolutely delicious including just about the best biscuits and gravy you'll ever taste!
